Branch prediction speeds up CPUs by guessing the outcomes of conditional tasks. If the guess is right, time is saved; if wrong, there’s a time penalty as the CPU rolls back. It’s crucial for speculative execution, which performs tasks in advance to avoid delays. The advanced tasks are kept if the prediction is accurate; otherwise, they are discarded, and the correct tasks get executed.

On the other hand — There is a new flaw in CPU town 👀

A CPU flaw known as Zenbleed primarily affects AMD Zen CPUs. It resembles the flaws like Spectre and Meltdown found in 2018. Spectre and Meltdown impact Intel, AMD, and ARM CPUs.
Zenbleed is a flaw in speculative execution that might let hackers steal sensitive data (Passwords and encryption keys ) on Zen 2 CPUs.
This is crazy because there are countless number of these CPUs being used my Cloud Providers. These cloud providers are able to give us cloud compute on a cheap rate simply because multiple users share the same CPU but do not realise that while operating in the cloud. Now imagine a hacker using this flaw can just see and extract sensitive information from other users on the shared CPU. 🤯
